Q: What is Halotherapy?
A: Salt therapy, aka Halotherapy, is an alternative treatment for a wide variety of ailments and conditions: asthma, allergies, anxiety, inflammation, skin issues, and even the common cold. The salt is naturally anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and antimicrobial. The treatment offers a unique, natural therapy that allows you to get a sense of peace and serenity, while simply breathing. The salt air is made up of negatively-charged ionized salt particles, 84 trace elements and minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, iodine, bromine, copper, selenium, and iron. These particles help to clear all pollens, viruses, pollutants and toxins of the lungs and nasal passageways, which in essence works to treat and prevent illness. The salt also works to heal the body as soon as its negative ions enter the nasal passageway, which then travel through the respiratory tract and into the bloodstream to be dispersed throughout the body.
Q: What does a session entail?
A: We offer two session types: Salt Therapy Sessions and Healer-led sessions. Salt Therapy Sessions are 45-minutes inside the Cave, clients relax in zero-gravity chairs inside a dimly lit environment. Meditation music plays to quiet your mind, while the twinkling lights above and the beautiful salt fireplace help you feel comfy and cozy. Depending on the location, our large Caves offer up to 13 zero-gravity chairs while the Private Cave is more beach-style where you relax on the salt as if you were laying on the sand at the beach (you can lay on a blanket)!
Healer-led sessions are guided by a trained Healer or Practitioner (or sometimes two) and are 45-minutes long. Sit back, relax, and breathe!
Q: Where does the salt come from?
A: Himalayan Pink Salt is imported from the Punjab, Pakistan region of the Himalayan mountains. It is said to be leftover from the primordial sea, which left behind the salt deposits as it evaporated.
Q: What do I wear inside the Cave?
A: For health and safety reasons, socks are required in all Caves. You have the freedom to wear whatever you would like inside the Cave, but we recommend dressing comfortably. The only requirement is that each person removes their shoes.
Q: Is the Cave hot like a sauna?
A: The Cave is very carefully temperature controlled to maintain the best environment for the salt. The temperate usually falls between 68 and 70 degrees, so if you tend to run cold, you may want to consider dressing a bit warmer. We offer blankets for extra coziness and comfort.
Q: Are children allowed in the Cave?
A: In both Huntington and NYC we built a separate cave Cave just for the wee ones with toys and books to keep them occupied. The sessions are 45-minutes, run every hour and an appointment is mandatory. Children must be supervised by an adult. Any child over the age of 11 that can sit quietly can attend a healing session or sit in our Main Cave. No electronics are permitted.
Q: How do I book a session?
A: To book a session in NYC: all clients are required to create a profile on Wellness Living here. A profile and session purchase are required in order to book a session and can be done so by clicking BOOK NOW at the top righthand corner of our website.
To book a session in Montauk or Huntington: please call or email the location you are looking to visit directly. You’ll need to provide your name, the number of people in your party, and your phone number. As long as we have the space available, we will reserve those spots for you.
Q: How many people are in each session?
A: Depending on the location and the Cave, a Cave can hold anywhere from 8 - 13 people at one time. Depending on when your session is, there may or may not be other people in your session.
Q: Is Salt Therapy safe?
A: Salt Therapy is safe for just about everyone, whether you’re young, old, pregnant, or not. However it is not recommended for those who have recently undergone an organ transplant.
Q: Do I need to check with my doctor before making a session?
A: Salt Therapy is safe for virtually everyone, however, you are more than welcome to discuss with your doctor before experiencing a session inside the Cave.
Q: Can I bring my phone inside the salt cave?
A: Cell phones and other electronics are not permitted inside the Cave. You may leave your belongings in the provided cubbies, out in your car, or at home for the duration of your session.
Q: Will I need to shower immediately after a session?
A: You do not need to shower immediately after a session. You can carry on with your day as usual.
Q: How do I find out about upcoming events?
A: We love hosting events in our Caves and invite you to try out each of our special events and classes. All events are listed in our monthly newsletter which is sent out on the 23rd of every month at 7AM. Sign up here to stay in the loop! We also list all events on the individual Facebook page of each location.
Q: Do I need to book a session ahead of time?
A: We highly suggest booking your session ahead of time. You are welcome to join a session on a walk-in basis, but please keep in mind that sessions do fill and if a session is full, we may not be able to accommodate you.
Q: What happens if I’m late for my session?
A: Since our sessions begin promptly at the top of each hour, we ask you arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled session time. Once the session begins, we are not able to allow anyone to enter the Cave. If you are late and arrive after the session has started, we would be happy to reschedule your session should the schedule allow. In NYC, if you are late and do not get into your scheduled session time, the session credit will be deducted from you account and considered a late cancel.
Q: Can I book a Cave for a private or group event?
A: Yes! All main and private Caves in all locations are available for private and/or group bookings. For pricing and availability, please email the location you would like to book directly.
